Rogers Park Golf Course in Tampa, Florida

The historic Rogers Park Golf Course, a part of Tampa FL is a public, 18-hole golf course. The city purchased the land in 1947, and it was a popular place to play golf for black Tampa residents during the era of racial segregation. The course was renovated in 2009, and it features the same challenging golf courses that have been featured around the world.

The park and golf course is part of a large, natural preserve that straddles the Hillsborough River.

The golf course was designed by Ron Garl, and it has a unique atmosphere. The course, which opened in 1952, has recently undergone renovations and is now a PGA-style golf course ideal for a family outing, or even a romantic day out with a loved one. Rogers Park Golf Course has a rich history and measures 6802 yards from the longest tees. It has a USGA rating of 72.2 and has four sets of tees to accommodate players of all skill levels. It also has a practice facility with a golf simulator and a full-service restaurant. The history of Rogers Park Golf Course is a fascinating one. In 1954, Ben Sanborn, then City Parks Superintendent, announced plans to expand the course to 18 holes. In addition, Sanborn was awarded the Tampa Junior Chamber of Commerce's "Good Government" award for his work. This award honors public officials for their accomplishments over the years. Sanborn also worked with the city's African-American community to develop the park which is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Rogers Park Golf Course also has a history of baseball. The Chicago Cubs moved their spring training to Tampa in 1913. In 1919, the town fielded a minor league team, called the Smokers, named after the cigar industry in the area. During the same time, the city also had a semi-professional team, the Tampa Giants, in the Florida State Negro League. The team's players were mostly African American and Afro-Caribbean.

Despite its location along the Hillsborough River, Roger Parks still encompasses roughly 160 acres of Tampa's region and boasts a beautiful waterfront view. The Rogers Golf Park is an excellent try, with good greens and great golf carts which keep its name on the lips of golfers. The golf course's historical significance alone makes it a must-play for any golf enthusiast. Aside from Rogers Park, the Tampa Region features some other unique and intriguing locations. One of them is the Museum of Science and Industry.
